A Glorious Creation
O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Psalm 8:1.
A couple of weeks ago we noticed two parent ducks coming across from their usual surroundings near our area. Their appearance looked like strangers looking for something. As I tried to figure out what that might be, it dawned on me that it must be their time for brooding and hatching new ducklings. My guess was as right as it could be when, a few weeks after, leaving home I was greeted by about twelve ducklings, I was so excited and could not help but to say “Good Morning to them” Oh how beautiful they looked, manifesting God’s creation and glory. This is just one of the many instances of seeing God’s marvelous handiwork being reflected in our daily lives. However, you may view the creation story from whatever perspective, the fact remains that our origins and existence are beyond our human reasoning, thoughts, and imaginations. For us Christians we have come to acknowledge that by virtue of our faith in God.
Such must have been the thought of the Psalmist as he references the royalty, his mighty power and greatness of God in Psalm 8. Many of the psalms affirm this with various acclamations. In addition, we have some great hymns and songs all speaking to how wonderful God is and his mighty works we see in our lives. Hymns like “All things bright and beautiful….” and “For the Beauty of the Earth …” are just a few of the many reminders of creations. We add onto this with our own testimonies of vacations and visits to many wonderful places on the earth, from rivers, lakes, to mountains etc.
I wish there was a way for us to have had a sneak preview of God’s plan as he pondered creation and laid out a strategic plan which he implemented from one day to the other masterfully. But I am reminded by the scripture from Isaiah that “Our ways are not God’s ways, neither are our thoughts… But then we did not even exist, but long before we came into being he had plans for us, knitting us in our mother’s womb, fearfully and wonderfully making us and not only that the plans he has for us, plans to bring us a future and prosperity. We as humans are unique in these mighty works being created in God’s image and from the Psalmist a little lower than angels. Yet God cared for us to entrust into our hands the expanse of his beautiful, marvelous, and wonderful works to be good stewards of.
What glory and honor accorded us by our maker, but how often do we pause to reflect in our busy lives to this. We are often consumed by life’s desires that we fail to make enough time to reflect and appreciate such a precious gift. The psalmist is giving us this opportunity to find time to be grateful and give thanks to God for the honor and glory accorded us as depicted in these words from psalm 8: 3-5
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
