A Psalm of God’s presence through times of difficulty
“Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard,
who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip.
For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.
You brought us into the net; you laid burdens on our backs; you let
people ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water;
yet you have brought us out to a spacious place.
I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will pay you my vows…
Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his steadfast love from me.

We are in the middle of the month of May and each day many people are getting more anxious questioning how long this pandemic is going to last? How long can I keep my job? When can I get back to my work, my school, my church? And some others go further trying to find out an answer to why is this happening?
The writer of Psalm 66 believes that God is testing the Hebrew people; that God is behind their struggles. Some of us today might feel disgust to read this, and though we might not believe that God sends us troubles to test us, we can still view the ordeals and difficult times we endure in our lives as tests. How we face challenges such as illness or job loss help us to discover the truth of our character as followers of Jesus Christ.
We are indeed going through difficult times, but during this reality Psalm 66 brings the hope of a better future. We can join the Psalmist saying: “we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a spacious place”(verse 12). “Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me (verse 20)
When the Bible speaks about God, it most often does so by telling what God has done. In other words, when the Bible speaks of God, it tells a story. Are we prepared to tell the story of God’s presence with us during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Prayer:
Gracious and Merciful God give us a spirit of gratitude for your presence in the difficult circumstances of our lives and help us to face our struggles with patience and hope.
In Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen!

Un Salmo de la presencia de Dios para tiempos de dificultad
“Bendecid, pueblos, a nuestro Dios, Y haced oír la voz de su alabanza.
El es quien preservó la vida a nuestra alma, Y no permitió que nuestros pies resbalasen.
Porque tú nos probaste, oh Dios; Nos ensayaste como se afina la plata. Nos metiste en la red;

Ya estamos a mediados del mes de Mayo y cada día mucha gente está más ansiosa y preocupada haciéndose preguntas como: Cuanto mas tiempo durara la pandemia? Por cuanto tiempo podre tener mi trabajo? Cuando voy a poder regresar a mi trabajo, a mi escuela, a mi Iglesia? Y otros mas van más lejos tratando de encontrar respuestas a el porque está sucediendo todo esto?
El escritor del Salmo 66 cree que es Dios quien está probando al pueblo Hebreo. Que es Dios quien está detrás de todos los problemas y luchas de su pueblo. A lo mejor algunos de nosotros hoy podemos sentirnos incomodos de leer esto, pero aunque nosotros no creamos que es Dios quien nos manda los problemas y obstáculos para probarnos, todavía podemos ver que las dificultades y obstáculos son pruebas en nuestras vidas. La manera de como nosotros enfrentamos las luchas y situaciones difíciles tales como enfermedades y perdida de trabajo nos ayuda a descubrir la verdad de nuestro carácter como seguidores de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
Ciertamente estamos atravesando por tiempos difíciles, pero durante esta realidad el Salmo 66 nos trae la esperanza de un futuro mejor. Nos podemos unir al Salmista diciendo: “Pasamos por el fuego y por el agua, Y nos sacaste a abundancia” (verseo 12) “Bendito sea Dios, Que no echó de sí mi oración, ni de mí su misericordia.” (verso 20)
Cuando la Biblia habla acerca de Dios, lo hace a menudo contando lo que Dios ha hecho. En otras palabras, cuando la Biblia habla acerca de Dios nos cuanta una historia. Esta usted preparado/a para contar la historia de la presencia de Dios durante la pandemia del COVID-19?
Oración:
Dios lleno de gracia y misericordia, danos un espíritu de gratitud por tu presencia en las situaciones difíciles de nuestra vida. Y ayúdanos a enfrentar los obstáculos y situaciones difíciles con paciencia y esperanza. En Jesucristo nuestro Señor, Amen!
