A Day to Look Forward To
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed. Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire? But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. As children most of us felt as though Christmas day would never come. I remember as a child asking my mother, when is Christmas going to be? She responded, it will come soon, be patient.
We looked forward to it eagerly for weeks, and these weeks seemed like years! The anticipation filled us with excitement and imagination and prompted all kinds of preparation for the big day.
Another big day is coming. But this time we do not know the date, and how is going to be!
Suppose you knew that Jesus would return this year or next month or next week. What difference would that make in your plans and priorities? How would you feel? What preparation would you make?
Prayer: Gracious and loving God, in this time of Advent help us to wait with patience for your holy promise of your second coming. Help us to prepare for the Day of the Lord with repentance. In Jesus Christ, our Lord we pray, Amen!

God’s grace and blessings, God’s challenge and healthy discomfort, God’s Spirit and energy be with you, in the hope Christ offers us all.
Un Día para Esperar También,
“8 Pero, amados, no ignoréis que, para el Señor, un día es como mil años y mil años como un día. 9 El Señor no retarda su promesa, según algunos la tienen por tardanza, sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento. 10 Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche. Como niños y niñas, la mayoría de nosotros nos sentimos como que el día Navidad nunca llegaría.
Recuerdo que de niño le preguntaba a mi mama, ¿Cundo va a llegar Navidad? Ella me decía pronto llegara, ten paciencia.
Esperamos ansiosamente por semanas, y estas semanas se convierten en años. La espera nos llena emoción e imaginación y nos evoca toda clase de preparación para el gran día.
¡Otro día esta también por venir, pero en esta ocasión no sabemos la fecha! Ni ¿cómo va a ser? Supongamos que ustedes supieran que el Señor Jesus vendrá este año o el próximo mes, o la próxima semana. ¿Qué diferencia haría esto en sus planes y prioridades? ¿Cómo se sentirían?
¿Qué preparativos harían ustedes?
Oración: Dios de gracia y amor, En este tiempo de adviento ayúdanos a esperar con paciencia la promesa de tu segunda venida. ayúdanos a prepararnos para el día del Señor con arrepentimiento. ¡En Jesucristo nuestro Señor oramos, Amen!
