Marks of a True Christian
Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.

We are known as true Christians not by the denomination to which we belong to, but by our character and love that come only from above. Jesus told Nicodemus “no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.” (John 3:3)
When I see what we are going through currently in our nation, I see many divisions, people getting angry toward each other sometimes just for being different. Different in the color of the skin, different in culture and language. There is discrimination and racism in different levels in our communities, and even in churches people experience discrimination and racism, which makes me wonder how can this be?
The Apostle Paul invites us through these verses to strive for something better in our Christian life: to rejoice in the hope that things will get better, that we need to practice patience, even in suffering, and to persevere in prayer. During these difficult times I have seen some churches providing for the needs of others and extending hospitality to strangers. I realized that it is easier to provide for those in need that we know than to extend hospitality to strangers, because this take us out of our comfort zone and call us to risk in our relationships. That is why to get to this level people need a change of heart and mind, to be born again in Jesus Christ. John Wesley called this experience Justifying Grace.
Prayer: Gracious and loving God, these are difficult times. Help us to rejoice in the hope that you walk with us. Give patience to those who are suffering and help us to persevere in prayer for each other. Touch our hearts so we can provide for those in need and furthermore, to welcome and extend hospitality to strangers, so we can experience the joy of your kingdom. In Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray, Amen!

God’s grace and blessings, God’s challenge and healthy discomfort, God’s Spirit and energy be with you, in the hope Christ offers us all.

Nosotros somos conocidos como verdaderos cristianos/as no por la denominación a la cual pertenecemos, sino mas bien por nuestro carácter y amor que solamente puede venir de alto. Jesus le dijo a Nicodemo “De cierto, de cierto te digo que el que no nace de nuevo no puede ver el reino de Dios” (San Juan 3:3)
Cuando veo lo que estamos atravesando en este tiempo como nación, puedo ver muchas divisiones, gente enojándose unos con otros muchas veces solo por ser diferentes. Diferentes por el hecho de tener el color de su piel distinta, por tener diferente cultura y lenguaje. Hay discriminación y racismo en los diferentes niveles de nuestras comunidades, aun en las iglesias algunas gentes experimentan discriminación y racismo, lo que me hace preguntarme a mí mismo ¿cómo puede ser esto?
El apóstol San Pablo nos invita a través de estos versículos a esforzarnos por algo mucho mejor en nuestra vida cristiana: a regocijarnos en la esperanza que las cosas mejoraran, que necesitamos practicar la paciencia aun en el sufrimiento, y perseverar en la oración. Durante estos tiempos difíciles he podido ver algunas iglesias proveer para las necesidades de otros y extender hospitalidad a personas extrañas. Me he dado cuenta que es mas fácil proveer para las necesidades de aquellos en necesidad que extender hospitalidad a los extraños y desconocidos, porque esto nos saca de nuestra zona de confortamiento y nos llama a arriesgar en nuestras relaciones. Por eso es que para alcanzar este nivel la gente necesita experimentar un cambio en su corazón y en su mente, nacer de nuevo en Cristo Jesus. Juan Wesley llamo esta experiencia como Gracia Justificante.
Oración: Dios de gracia y de misericordia, estos son tiempos difíciles. ayúdanos a regocijarnos en la esperanza de que tu caminas con nosotros. Provee paciencia a aquellos que están sufriendo y ayúdanos a perseverar en la oración unos por otros. Toca nuestro corazón para que podamos proveer a aquellos en necesidad y mucho más a recibir y extender hospitalidad a los extraños y desconocidos, de manera que podamos experimentar el gozo de tu reino. En Jesucristo nuestro Señor, Amen!
