Deeply Rooted
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.
(Psalm 1: 1-3 NRSV)
A very important part in my spiritual discipline is reading the scripture, and reading the psalms connects me with the reality of the relationship between human beings with their creator. God knows us better than we know ourselves. In the Psalms we can find comfort when we are going through a difficult situation in our life, or courage when we are confronted with those times in which we need to make decisions that will affect our life and the life of others. The Psalms are a sanctuary of prayer to which we may daily retreat and find crucial nourishment for our hearts.
One legacy we received from the Old Testament writers is their dedication to the “law of the Lord” and to its significance in daily life. Psalm 1 reflects on the law of God and affirms that those who meditate day and night and delight in the law of God are like trees planted by streams of water.
By meditating in the scripture over and over, this psalmist grows roots “like trees.”
The practice of Lectio Divina, or Divine Reading, is a way to become “rooted” in the scripture.
Today, choose a verse and repeat it silently to yourself a few times. Listen to what God may be saying to you. You may hear the Spirit ask, “How strong are your roots? Are you planting yourself by streams of water? What are those streams?”
Prayer:
Gracious God and Loving Father, it is our desire that we too walk in Your ways and keep from foolish compromise with the world’s system. Keep our hearts set on the Lord Jesus so that our thoughts are not influenced by the mind-set of this current age, but may we be like the those planted by Your many rivers of grace and love, joy and peace, so that Your mercy and compassion may flow through us to the people around us, in the place where you have planted us, in Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.

Profundamente Enraizados,
Bienaventurado el varón que no anduvo en consejo de malos, ni estuvo en camino de pecadores,
ni en silla de escarnecedores se ha sentado, sino que en la ley de Jehová está su delicia y en su Ley medita de día y de noche. Será como árbol plantado junto a corrientes de aguas, que da su fruto en su tiempo y su hoja no cae, y todo lo que hace prosperará.

Una parte muy importante en mi disciplina espiritual es la lectura de las sagradas Escrituras, y la lectura de los Salmos me conecta con la realidad de la relación entre los seres humanos y su creador.
Dios nos conoce mucho mejor que nosotros a nosotros mismos. En los salmos podemos encontrar conforte cuando estamos atravesando por momentos difíciles en nuestras vidas. Coraje cuando estamos confrontando con aquellos tiempos en los cuales necesitamos hacer decisiones que afectan nuestra vida y la vida de los demás. Los salmos son un santuario de oración en el cual podemos hacer diariamente un retiro espiritual y encontrar nutrimiento para nuestros corazones.
Un legado que hemos recibido de los escritores del Antiguo Testamento es su dedicación por la “ley de Dios” y su significado en la vida diaria. El salmo 1, reflexiona en la ley de Dios y afirma que aquellos que meditan día y noche y se deleitan en ella son como árboles plantados junto a corrientes de agua. Y meditando en la escritura vez tras vez, este salmista crece raíces “como árboles.”
La práctica de Lectio Divina, o Lectura Divina, es una manera de llegar a estar “enraizados” en la escritura o palabra de Dios. El día de hoy, escoja un versículo y repítaselo en silencio a usted mismo por unos cuantos minutos. Escuche lo que Dios le pueda estar diciendo. Usted a lo mejor oirá al Espíritu preguntar, “¿qué tan fuertes son tus raíces”? ¿Estas tu plantándote junto a corrientes de agua viva?
Oración:
Amado Dios, Padre amoroso, es nuestro deseo que nosotros también caminemos en tus caminos, y nos guardemos de no comprometernos con el sistema mundial. Mantén nuestros corazones puestos en Jesus de manera que nuestros pensamientos no sean influidos por la manera de pensar de nuestra era actúa, sino que seamos como aquellos plantados junto a corrientes de gracia y amor, gozo y paz, para que tu misericordia y compasión puedan fluir a través de nosotros hacia otras personas que nos rodean, en los lugares donde hemos sido plantados, en el nombre de Jesus oramos, AMEN.
