Bearing Fruit
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.
(John 15: 7-8 New Revised Standard Version)
This is one of the passages from the Gospel of John that is so important for me in describing my relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Is a relationship of belonging, a belonging that is open and is given by grace to every human being.
Here Jesus promises to dwell in and with us and asks that we dwell in and with him. In other passages of John’s gospel, union with Jesus is described as belonging to the future (14:3, 20-22, 16:22). But in 15:6 the disciples are described as being already in union with Jesus. The emphasis is on remaining in that union. “Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit” (15:5) Jesus repeatedly uses the word “abide” to describe that relationship of the vine to the branches.
One of Jesus’ key appeals in John’s gospel is that the disciples “abide in me.” In other words “Make your home with me,” or “Stick with me.” This sticking with, homing or abiding union with Jesus’ life results in the fruit-bearing of outreach and discipling. And this is to what we have being called even during the pandemic time. We celebrate that we continue planting new ministries and reaching new people for Jesus Christ in our Wisconsin Conference, and this is a sign of fruitfulness.
Prayer:
Gracious and loving God, we give you thanks because it is through Jesus Christ the true vine that we are connected to you. Help us to be branches that produce fruit. In Jesus Christ we pray. Amen,

Dando frutos
Si permanecéis en mí y mis palabras permanecen en vosotros, pedid todo lo que queráis y os será hecho. En esto es glorificado mi Padre: en que llevéis mucho fruto y seáis así mis discípulos.
(San Juan 15: 7-8 Versión Reina Valera 1995)
Este es uno de los pasajes del Evangelio Según San Juan que son muy importantes para mi en describir mi relación con Jesucristo como mi Señor y Salvador. Esta es una relación de pertenencia, y este pertenecer esta abierto y es dado por gracia a todos los seres humanos.
Aquí, Jesus promete habitar en y con nosotros, y nos pedí que habitemos y vivamos con él. En otros pasajes del Evangelio según San Juan, la unión con Cristo es descrita como un pertenecer en un futuro, (Juan 14:3, 20-22, 16: 22) pero en el Cap. 15: 6 los discípulos son descritos como estando ya unidos con Cristo. El énfasis esta en mantener esta unión con Cristo. “Todo aquel que habita en mi yo en el lleva mucho fruto” (Juan 15: 5) Jesus repetidamente uso la palabra “Permaneced” para describir la relación entre los pámpanos y la vid.
Uno de los aspectos claves en el Evangelio según San Juan es que los discípulos “permanezcan en mi” en otras palabras, “habiten en mi”, o “Únanse, péguense a mí.” Este unir y permanecer en la vida con Cristo Jesus trae como resultado el dar fruto de alcance y discipulado. Y a esto es a lo cual fuimos llamados aun en tiempos de pandemia. Nosotros celebramos que continuamos plantando nuevos ministerios y alcanzando nuevas personas para Cristo Jesus en nuestra Conferencia de Wisconsin, y esta es una señal de algo fructífero.

Dios de gracia y amor, te damos gracias porque es a través de Jesucristo la vid verdadera que nosotros estamos conectados contigo. Ayúdanos a ser pámpanos que den mucho fruto. En Jesucristo nuestro Señor oramos, ¡Amen!
