By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. (1 John 4:13-16)
Christian disciples unite!
It is time for those of us who follow Jesus to proclaim loud and clear, “God is love.”
In the face of violent protest and acts of oppression, we need to witness to the reality that God is love. For those on the margins, lacking access to adequate food, clean water, warm clothing, decent housing, and basic healthcare, it is time to demonstrate that God is love. For the differently abled and physically limited, for those suffering mental and cognitive deficiencies, for those who have lost hope and a will to live, it is time for us to make real that God is love.
Love is much more than a passive feeling of affection but a deep motivation and call to action. Active love serves the needs of others. Active love makes sacrifices. Active love creates and builds and strengthens. Active love sweats and strains and stretches. Active love gets up and moves where the opportunity is greatest. Love is a verb, not just a noun.
Love is our witness. Where we encounter hatred, we offer love. Where we view violence, we demand love. Where we see injustice, racism, sexism, classism, and any other divisive -ism, we stand for love. We do not allow the spirit of destruction to prevail over God’s grand gift of love.
We struggle with the burden of thirteen months of pandemic. We are stunned and heartbroken by multiple incidents of racist violence and tragic murder. We see human rights violations at home and around the world, abuse of immigrant people, government coups and attacks on democracy. We watch helplessly as floods, fires, earthquakes, and ice storms do great harm. There is much that we cannot do in the face of such overwhelming situations, but there is one thing we can ALWAYS do – love.
My hope and prayer is that we – knit together as the incarnate body of Christ – will be motivated by love in all things, in all ways. There is no greater force at our disposal that the world needs more. It is imperative that we take the power and authority we have been given to love unconditionally, for when we love freely, abundantly, and well, we are offering God to the world.
Prayer: God, you are love. We are your children, the children of love. Love is in our DNA; love is our identity. We are yours, Lord, so we are love. Help us never forget that we are love in the world, and let us never ignore or disregard the opportunity we have to share your love with others. Amen.

¡Los discípulos Cristianos Unen!
Es tiempo ya para aquellos de nosotros que seguimos a Jesus de proclamar en voz alta y muy claro, que: “Dios es Amor.”
Ante las violentas protestas y actos de opresión, necesitamos testificar de la realidad de que Dios es Amor. Para aquellos en los márgenes de la sociedad que no tienen acceso a una adecuada alimentación, agua limpia, ropa caliente, un lugar decente donde vivir, y un cuidado básico para su salud, es tiempo de demostrar que Dios es amor. Para personas con capacidades diferentes y limitaciones físicas, para aquellos que sufren deficiencias mentales y cognitivas, para aquellos que han perdido la esperanza y el deseo de vivir, es tiempo que nosotros hagamos claro que Dios es amor.
Dios es mucho mas que un sentimiento pasivo de afección, sino una profunda motivación y un llamado a la acción. El amor que acciona es aquel que sirve las necesidades de los demás. El amor que acciona hace sacrificios. El amor que acciona es creativo y construye, y fortalece. El amor que acciona suda, se esfuerza, y se expande. El amor que acciona se levanta y se mueve a donde la oportunidad es mayor. Amor es un verbo, no solo un nombre.
Amor es nuestro testimonio. Donde encontramos odio, nosotros ofrecemos amor. Donde vemos violencia, nosotros demandamos amor, Donde vemos injusticia, racismo, sexismo, clasicismo, y cualquier otro—ismo, que causa división, nosotros escogemos y afirmamos el amor. Nosotros no permitimos que el espíritu de destrucción prevalezca sobre el gran regalo de Dios que es el amor.
Nosotros luchamos con la carga de trece meses de pandemia, Estamos aturdidos y desconsolados por la multitud de incidentes de violencia racial y trágicos asesinatos. Vemos violación a los derechos humanos aquí en casa y alrededor de todo el mundo, el abuso al pueblo de inmigrantes, golpes a los gobiernos y ataques a la democracia. Vemos también sin esperanza como las inundaciones, incendios, terremotos, y tormentas de hielo hacen un gran daño. Hay mucho que nosotros no podemos hacer ante estas situaciones abrumadoras, pero hay una cosa que SIEMPRE podemos hacer---Amar.
Mi esperanza y oración es que nosotros---unidos juntos como el cuerpo encarnado de Cristo---seamos motivamos por el amor en todas las cosas, y en todas las maneras. No hay fuerza mas grande a nuestra disposición y que el mundo necesite más, que el amor. Es imperativo que tomemos el poder y la autoridad que se nos ha sido dada de amar incondicionalmente, porque cuando amamos libremente, abundantemente, y bien, estamos ofreciendo a Dios para el mundo.
Oración: Dios, tu eres amor. Nosotros somos tus hijos, hijos de tu amor. Amor es nuestro DNA; amor es nuestra identidad. Somos tuyos Señor, de manera que somos amor. Ayúdanos a nunca olvidar que nosotros somos amor en este mundo, y nunca permitas que ignoremos o despreciemos la oportunidad que tenemos de compartir tu amor con los demás. Amen.
