It is the time of year to make and possibly break your new year’s resolution(s). I often set unreasonable and unrealistic resolutions, and so, when I fall short I feel guilt and shame. Sometimes this leads me to double down on my efforts, but at other times, I feel like such a failure, that I give up.
This past year has taught me a lot about my faith, internal processing, and self-compassion. I have used this knowledge as I approached 2021, deeply reflecting on the Biblical passage of John 1:1-5, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and without Him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in Him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”
This Scripture has been a framework for my intentions for 2021. I realize that God is here, walking with me as I work toward being all that I have been created to be. Jesus is with me in my beginning and will be with me all along – right to my ending. All that I have, all that I am, all that I will be – is a gift from God. God shines a light into the darkness, giving me forgiveness, grace, and hope.

My intentions are to continue to:
- make healthy choices: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually
- develop a God-honoring leadership style for ministry
- seek pathways that deepen my spirituality.
