Daily Devotion and Prayer - August 18, 2021

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong – that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. (Romans 1:11-12)

A highlight of the day for me is going to get the mail. It breaks up my day and takes my mind to a different place. I do enjoy reading through the various pieces of mail: newsletters, letters, cards and especially, packages!

One of the first pieces of mail I received at our new place was from the Hudson United Methodist Church, letting me know that I was held in prayer. This was exactly what I needed in that moment, a tangible reminder of love, prayer, connectiveness and God’s grace.

If a small card uplifts my spirit, how much more would a whole collection of “tangible” reminders do for my soul? You know where I am headed, The Holy Bible. This is the ultimate tangible reminder of love, prayer, connectiveness and God’s grace. This is the best tool in our toolbox for life.

I realize that diving into the Holy Bible feels daunting or overwhelming, but as with all things, small steps are better than no steps. I invite you to a Refresh Your Life 12 day Reading Plan from The United Methodist Church, https://www.umc.org/en/content/refresh-your-life-12-day-bible-reading-plan.  There is a download that will guide you with Scripture and some reflection questions. I am starting this on September 1, 2021 and I hope some of you will join me in this twelve-day commitment.

May God’s Word brighten your day, encourage you to go deeper in your faith, and expand your horizons of ministry and service. Amen.
