Soul Food: We Press On . . .

Soul Food: We Press On….

Requesting your prayers for the upcoming North Central Jurisdictional Conference: Nov. 1-5, 2022, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

“…bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ep 4:2-3)

Let us begin with gratitude for our God. We praise God’s loving and transformational presence in the world. We are an incarnational presence of Jesus as The United Methodist Church humbly answers God’s call and claim on creation. Our every moment is a response to the Spirit that blows where it will.

It is our delight and privilege to serve. It is an honor to say yes to Jesus and live as a member of this beautiful church. In the body of Christ, we discover all members enjoy sacred worth. All members contribute. All members are called to serve, each according to their gifts. We pray that all disciples of Jesus the Christ will choose to be salt and light, despite the difficulties we face.

Next week, the North Central Jurisdictional Conference will be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana from Nov. 1-5. This Conference is a valuable gathering for us. Through holy conferencing, bishops will begin the time face to face with candidates who are Black Indigenous, Persons of Color for dialogue to discern our way into building Beloved Community.
Also, through the bonds of the Spirit, three new episcopal leaders will be elected, consecrated, and deployed for the mission and ministry that the Jurisdiction has been called to engage in the annual conferences from Ohio in the East to the Dakotas and Iowa in the west.

Now, ahead of the Jurisdictional Conference, I pray that we may become more united and visionary for mission and join with living hope. We have the capacity to make Christ known in diverse ways and in every place from Oconto to Oconomowoc.

Through the process of electing three new bishops and assessing and assigning all active bishops to the Conferences, we pray and hope that the church will become more dynamically in love with the world. As your bishop, I am committed to my own renewal and joyful service.

We ask for your prayers for Rev. Dan Schwerin, who was endorsed for bishop by the Wisconsin Delegation, the Wisconsin Conference, the North Central Jurisdictional Urban Network, and the Wisconsin Conference Korean Caucus. He has been a marvelous servant leader in Wisconsin and is offering his heart to the church. Let’s hold Dan and Julie in earnest prayer and hope. May this Jurisdiction sense the Holy Spirit and join it, wherever it leads.

Know that I am praying for you.
