The Anti-Racism Task Force Training Series

“How Long, O Lord, ‘til the New Wine Burst the Wineskin?”

In-Person or via Zoom- October 22
Zoom Only- November 10 & 17

This training, led by Rev. Dr. Don Kim, will address the issues of intersectionality of the Christian faith and diversity in multiculturalism and effective church leadership through critical theological interpretations of assessing the culture and navigating the so-called “discipleship,” to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world in today’s stigma of racial crisis and multicultural challenges. Our congregational life tends to keep us separate from those who are different in race, class, or life experiences. We need to do some serious thinking about ecclesiology and public theology.

Why Should You Attend:
Most diversity and inclusion efforts in an organization focus on particular observable demographics such as race, gender, age, etc. This presentation will expand the concept of diversity by addressing the more global concept of cultural competency within organizations. Participants will develop the knowledge and skills needed to lead a culturally competent and strategic organization.

Groat Grant Gratitude: Algoma UMC

Thank you so much for granting us $1,200 from the Groat family funds. That, in combination with memorial funds from two retired pastors and their wives (Ginny and Rev. Al Briggs and Jane and Rev. Bob Kuhn) made it possible for us to install an automatic ADA door opener to our main entrance to allow those with mobility issues greater access to our building. Installation was completed in September and we celebrated with the children of those two couples as we dedicated it to God's service in worship on Sunday, October 13.

The above photos show the installation process and a few of the people gathered for our dedication. We appreciate the help in making our building more accessible to all!

Local Church Stories

Successful Hunt Hill Trip with North West District Youth, Oct. 8th, 2022

What a great day we had with the youth at Hunt Hill on October 8th, 2022. I felt so blessed and happy to know we, together, impacted some youth and I am sure they impacted us. To recap: There were 10 youth who attended the event; 4 Clergy - Pastor Paolo, Pastor Samuel, Pastor Hakki and myself. 2 Adults from Pastor Hakki's church and not only Carrie who is on our Team, but, her husband Dale.

The Theme of our day set apart at Hunt Hill was: "Being a Good Steward of the Earth: Keeping God's Creation Litter Free". Pastor Samuel, Pastor Paolo, Pastor Hakki, Carrie and I spoke briefly about our different countries and their litter problem. Scripture was also shared regarding being good stewards of God's Earth. The youth expressed how much fun it was to go over bumpy roads, twists and turns and dogging the many muddy ponds on the trails. - Submitted by Pastor Jean Waldron, Pastor Paolo Vasquez, Pastor Samuel Subramanian, Carrie Romsos

Discipleship Ministries
Planning Guide for your 2022 Advent Services

Isaiah is our anchor text for this Advent worship series. But Psalms gives us the mood, theme, or even soul. “I was glad when they said to me ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’” The opening line from Psalm 122 captures something of the Advent spirit this year. From “I was glad” to “go to the house of the Lord.” We are singing a song of ascent this Advent season.
