Wisconsin Conference Approves transfer of funds for Afghan Refugees

The Board of Global Ministries is deeply appreciative to all the churches and individuals who contributed clothing and/or financial donations to Afghan Refugee Assistance.  Two large trucks packed with clothing were delivered earlier this fall and more than $43,000 have been collected as of November 30.

The transfer of these funds to the Wisconsin Council of Churches was approved at the Board of Global Ministries meeting on December 4th.  Roughly 1/3 or $15,000 will be used to hire a coordinator of volunteers at Fort McCoy.  The Wisconsin Council of Churches will appoint an advisory group which will be responsible for determining how the remaining funds will be used.  A member of the Wisconsin Conference United Methodist Church will be included as a member of this advisory team.

Again, many thanks to all who have contributed to this project.  As the committee determines how some of the remaining funds will be spent, this information will again be provided to you.  If you wish to offer additional funds in the future, you may continue to use the Immigration Assistance Fund and those monies will be transferred to the Wisconsin Council of Churches quarterly.
