Wisconsin Conference Director of Congregational Development Retires

Siblings in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in this season of the magi. Thank you for your faithfulness in our mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world.

The scriptures we read in Epiphany speak of callings, how God equips faithfulness at the heart of our life together for the transformation of the world. I write today to share the news of a new calling for another transformational leader on the Wisconsin Conference cabinet.

With a grateful heart for his ministry, I write to let you know Rev. Jorge Luis Mayorga Solis will seek a retired relationship with the Wisconsin Conference, effective July 1, 2022.

Rev. Mayorga was the church planter for Lake Geneva: La Resurrección which became a mother church and one of our early mustard seeds for Hispanic Ministry in Wisconsin. Rev. Mayorga served as a District Superintendent of four districts, was elected to General Conference and the Wisconsin Conference endorsed him as an episcopal candidate in 2008. After his work on the cabinet, he served the Waukesha: Salem UMC and then returned to serve on the cabinet as Director of Congregational Development. Rev. Mayorga has offered leadership to the Immigration Task Force, the Church of Bolivia Partnership, the North Central Jurisdiction Hispanic Caucus, and has taught the Course of Study at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary for more than twenty years. He has been a leading voice in the evolution of the National Plan for Hispanic Ministry.

His engineering of the Institute of Congregational Development (ICD) and the Instituto de Desarrollo Congregacional (IDC) has been transformational for our conference, and he has long helped us center the voices of the immigrant and called us to see our neighbors from the Americas.

About his ministry he writes, “I am so grateful to the Lord for the blessing of serving in ministry for many years and to the Wisconsin Annual Conference for making me the leader that I am now. Praise to the Lord!”

Please be in prayer for Rev. Mayorga and his family. Do all in your power to confirm his value in our connection and affirm God’s presence available to him in transition. Let us be in prayer for the next person God will call to serve as Director of Congregational Development. Thank you for your presence in our connection as we continue to follow the light of the world toward days of love and justice.

In the hope that is ours in Christ.
