Storm Repair - Marion, Alabama
For this trip VIM is again partnering with Sowing Seeds of Hope, a grass roots community organization in Marion, Alabama. Sowing Seeds of Hope is battling Perry County’s poverty issues on several fronts: medical care availability, encouraging economic growth to provide local job opportunities, education, and housing. It is in this last area that we will partner with Sowing Seeds of Hope, assisting homeowners with home repairs that allow individuals to safely stay in their own homes. This could include construction of accessibility ramps, porches, or roofs.
Marion is a community of 3500 people and almost 50% of the City’s residents live on incomes below the poverty line.
Housing will be at Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, with showers at the Marion Military Academy.

March 20-24, 2023
Midwest Mission Distribution Center, Pawnee, IL
Each year Wisconsin’s United Methodist churches support the Midwest Missions Distribution Center (MWDC) by collecting buckets of supplies for the Annual Conference Ingathering. These will become cleaning kits, school supplies or personal hygiene kits for men, women and children around the world. When all the supplies come in, they need to be inventoried, sorted and placed in the kits. This is just one of the many projects that happen at the Midwest Mission Distribution center.
Volunteers also help by sorting donated items, sewing-making & repairing clothes, helping with mailings, building school desks, repairing bicycles & sewing machines, helping to load/unload supplies, maintaining the buildings and grounds, or whatever the current requested needs are at the time. Midwest Mission’s strives to accommodate a wide variety of ability levels, from sit down work to manual labor.
For the trip to the MWDC we will be traveling to the campus on Sunday March 19. We will be staying at their facility, in 6 dorm rooms that will accommodate 2 adults in lower bunk beds and 2 dorm rooms with twin beds, that can accommodate 3 adults. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday we will be working the morning and afternoon shifts of 3 ½ hours each. On Wednesday we will work the morning shift then visit the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Springfield, Illinois home of former president Abraham Lincoln from 1844 to 1861. Friday we will also work the morning shift and depart for home after lunch.
Food will be prepared by one (or more) of our VIM chef’s.
Travel to the site will be by individual car but car-pooling is always an option.
The trip will be limited to 18 registrations. Deadline for registration is January 19, 2023.
Cost: $225 per person including the material fee charged by MMDC.
