Rev. Lamarr Gibson is our new part time United Methodist Chaplain (15 hrs./wk). We welcome Lamarr to this chaplaincy. As a retired United Methodist clergy, he has been serving as pastor part time at Henderson United Methodist Church in Beloit since his retirement in 2016.
Lamarr has been a parish pastor for over 30 years, serving parishes both in Michigan and here in Wisconsin. In addition to his many years of visiting his congregation and community folks while they were hospitalized, Lamarr brings professional training and education in pastoral counseling as well as leadership in missions and social service. His caring heart, kind and compassionate spirit brings a healing presence to the bedside of those hospitalized. Lamarr is married to his wife Linda and they live in Cottage Grove just east of Madison.
This chaplaincy is a part time position of 15 hrs. a week. Our chaplain visits United Methodists hospitalized in the three general hospitals in Madison…St. Mary’s, UnityPoint Meriter and University Hospital. He finds out who to visit through the daily hospital census under those listed as ‘Methodist’, or by requests that come by phone from pastors or other Methodists throughout the Conference. With the request and patient’s permission, Lamarr contacts the patient’s pastor on their behalf to communicate the parishioner’s hospitalization and concerns.
The United Methodist Hospitals Ministry Chaplaincy Committee oversees this chaplaincy position and is comprised of lay and clergy in the surrounding Madison area. This committee meets regularly with the chaplain to provide support and guidance.
If you have a request of our chaplain Lamarr Gibson to visit someone hospitalized in Madison, please contact him directly.
