Pastor Robert Odum reports from the Milwaukee Native American Ministry that this 20-year-old ministry serves an economically challenged, multicultural, urban community. He has served the ministry since June 2003. The ministry has been hosting a Karen refugee population from Miramar (Burma) for the last two years. The church engages in ecumenical prayer services at Indian Summer Lake Front Festival, and the Milwaukee mid-winter Pow-wow. Professor Roger Thomas teaches an Ojibwa language class. The Broken Arrow Recovery Group meets at the ministry. During the summer of 2009, Dawn Helton-Anishinaabeqwa, a seminarian attending the Native American Program at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, will be developing plans to educate the circuits in the WI Annual Conference on racism directed towards Native American Ministries in partnership with CONAM.
