Congratulations if you are ready to take the next steps in exploring the possibility of ordained ministry! These are some next steps you can take, and be sure to also visit the General Board for Higher Education and Ministry website.

  • Contact your pastor, campus minister or any United Methodist elder or deacon, such as your district superintendent, and get from him/her a copy of The Christian as Minister.
  • Review The Christian as Minister with your pastor, campus minister or any United Methodist elder or deacon, taking time to discern and examine your call to ministry.
  • Mail your District Superintendent a letter requesting an appointment to discuss the possibility of entering the process to become a Certified Candidate for Licensed or Ordained Ministry. In your letter, briefly outline your call to ministry, indicate where you currently hold your church membership/participant in a Christian fellowship, and how you actively serve in that community of faith.
  • Make an appointment to meet with your District Superintendent. At that time the District Office will have you complete the required release forms for your background checks, enroll you in the Online Candidacy System and the Conference Pathways System.
  • You will then receive instructions as to how to proceed with the Online Candidacy and Pathways Systems.
