Mayfield KY Tornado Recovery
October 22 to 28, 2023
In December 2021 a tornado touched down and ripped through western TN and KY. Downtown Mayfield was destroyed, Dresden was severely affected, and many homes were either destroyed or damaged. Many organizations and volunteers rushed to these areas to provide relief from this disaster. Survivors experienced the heroism of the combined efforts of organizations and volunteers in helping those affected by the tornadoes to survive the initial shock.
Fast forward to today –many of those organizations have left and volunteers have gone back to their homes or moved to the next disaster area. There is a large gap in the recovery of survivors from the 2021 tornadoes.
We will be partnering with the Tennessee Western Kentucky Disaster Response. Work will include construction, rebuilding, and repair of homes.
TWK Disaster Response supplies housing. We will most likely be sleeping on air mattresses in a local church set up for this with showers, and kitchen facilities.
This will be a drive to work camp. Mayfield is a day’s drive, approximately an 8 hour drive-time. Carpooling will be up to individuals.
Cost: $300.00 – includes lodging, meals, and donation to camp. TWK supplies all building materials. Checks made out to WAC/VIM.
Registration deadline is October 1 to insure adequate planning.
