According to paragraph 507 of The Book of Discipline, “any organization, clergy member, or lay member of The United Methodist Church may petition the General Conference.” Details of the process for submitting petitions for consideration by the 2020 General Conference are still pending. However, we are now ready to receive petitions for the Annual Conference to consider endorsing.

Because of the Special General Conference in February, we are getting a late start on the process and the deadline for submission to the now-forming Petitions Committee is Friday, March 29. We know that is a very short timeline, and we will do our best to process materials as quickly as we receive them. The Petitions Committee is your process advocate in ensuring that your petition communicates as clearly as possible your intended message and that it conforms to the requirements and restrictions for submitting petitions to General Conference.

Please see GC2020 Petition Submission Instructions for details on how and in what format to submit petitions for consideration at June’s Annual Conference. Again, the Wisconsin deadline for submitting petitions is March 29. Send them to the committee chair, Barbara Dick (This email address is being protected from spambots. You may, of course, submit petitions directly to General Conference, and any petitions that are not “endorsed” by Annual Conference in June may still be submitted directly to General Conference. We will share details and due dates for that process just as soon as they are available.
