Don’t miss the eighth annual Archives/Heritage Retreat at Pine Lake Camp on September 7-8, 2018. This year, we will expand on our Annual Conference program marking the 50th anniversary of the birthday of The United Methodist Church. Follow this link for a sample of the videos from that program.

Follow the road to Dallas, 1968, as we explore the history of the two denominations that came together in that year to form The United Methodist Church. Hear from those who witnessed these historic events; and learn how the union of the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren Churches in Wisconsin developed. Join us as we hold a worship service based on the one held at the Wisconsin Uniting Conference in 1969. See the premiere of our skit, “What’s in a Name?,” depicting the debate on how the name “The United Methodist Church” was chosen for the new denomination created in 1968. Hear the Rev. Dan Dick, Assistant to the Bishop, reflect on “United or Untied? The Rocky Road to Union.”

The Saturday morning workshop will address the needs of local church historians, and also mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of Pine Lake Camp. Register now, for one or both days, and join in the celebration of our Conference’s very special history. Download the brochure for registration information, or visit WIUMCCamps.org/retreats. More information about the Archives Retreat can also be found in the latest edition of the Flashbacks newsletter.
