Working with summer camp staff is some of the best young adult ministry our Conference does. Over 20 young leaders gather, hone their skills, and share their faith with the next generation. On June 1, to celebrate the completion of their first week of intensive training, the year-round camp staff encouraged them with a worship service of communion and commissioning. Bishop Jung came to preach, share a meal, and share discussion with these young adults.

The counselors and support staff greeted the Bishop with the joy and energy they share with every camper who comes to our sites – and he joined in their enthusiasm, running down the hill to share high fives and smiles.

After lunch, these young leaders sat down with the Bishop. They talked about their passion for creation care, and how the church can be a leader in environmental stewardship. Bishop Jung encouraged the staff to be authentically themselves, and to “be more real into the world. Rejoice in who you are.”

When asked how we as a Conference can be more supportive of our young adult staff, the counselors responded, “Write us letters! We work hard, and this job isn’t easy. It’s nice to know people care about us.”
