The School of Congregational Development is a premier event for United Methodist leaders for equipping conference leaders, clergy, and laity to lead vital, dynamic, life-changing congregations. Sponsored by Discipleship Ministries, Global Ministries, and Path 1, this year’s event is being hosted by the California-Pacific Conference. It will take place from August 15 – August 18 in San Diego, California.

There are six types of scholarships available. Scholarship applications are processed as they are received. Complete your application as soon as possible before they run out.

  • Global Ministries Racial Ethnic Scholarship: For people living outside of metropolitan San Diego. Covers $300 of the $350 registration fee, one free night lodging at the Garden-Bungalow at the Town & Country Resort, and free buffet breakfasts. A registration fee of $50 is required of each recipient, which must be paid at registration.
  • Global Ministries Racial Ethnic Seminarian Scholarship: For persons living outside of metropolitan San Diego, CA. Covers $125 of the $175 Registration Fee, two free nights lodging at the Garden-Bungalow at the Town & Country Resort, San Diego, free buffet breakfasts and $400 travel stipend. A registration fee of $50 is required of each recipient, which must be paid at registration. (Note: students doctoral programs do not qualify)
  • Global Ministries Small Church Scholarship: For participants from congregations with fewer than 150 in worship. Awards include two scholarships per church, one for the pastor and one for an additional person. The pastor must be within the first ten years of service in the UMC. Covers $300 of the $350 registration fee, one free night’s lodging at the Garden-Bungalow Town & Country Resort, San Diego and free buffet breakfasts (if needed, two rooms will be provided). A registration fee of $50 is required of each recipient, which must be paid at registration. Each person must make a separate application.
  • Western Jurisdiction Scholarship: For participants from congregations with fewer than 300 in worship and serving in the Western Jurisdiction. Awards include three scholarships per church, one for the pastor and two for two additional persons. Covers $300 of the $350 registration fee for each person. A registration fee of $50 is required of each recipient, which must be paid at registration. Each person must make a separate application.
  • Western Jurisdiction Local Seminarian Scholarship: Awards covers $125 of the $175. Each local seminarians will be responsible for $50 of the registration fee, which must be paid at registration.
  • California Pacific Conference Scholarship: For pastors and clergy who are or have been part of a funded new ministry in the last five years or are looking to start a new ministry in the next three years (Messy Church, Dinner Church, multi site, offsite experience, additional worship service, etc.). Covers $300 of the $350 registration fee. A registration fee of $50 of each recipient, which must be paid at registration. A travel stipend may be available for those from Hawaii.
