Bishop Jung invites everyone to attend the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Service on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 7 p.m. The service will be held at Brown Deer UMC, 5736 W Brown Deer Rd., Brown Deer, WI 53223. Bishop Melvin George Talbert will be the guest speaker.

Talbert received his Master of Divinity Degree from ITC Gammon in 1962. While at ITC, he became involved with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and shared in planning the first student sit-in demonstrations in Atlanta in the fall of 1960. Talbert made the commitment to nonviolence as a way of life during those days. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. accepted the invitation to join with the students in the sit-in demonstrations and was arrested with them. Thus, Talbert spent three days and nights in the same jail cell with Dr. King, an experience that shaped his life forever. Read full Bishop Talbert bio.

The topic for his address will be “A Trustworthy Prophet of the Lord.” He will use I Samuel 3: 1-20 as a scriptural foundation. The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. The livestream will be found at this link: youtube.com/user/WisconsinUMC/live.
