The Wisconsin Disaster Response Committee is offering a one-day Early Response Team training on Saturday, March 4th at the Wisconsin Annual Conference building in Sun Prairie. The mission of an Early Response Team is to provide a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster. Early Response Teams were first created by the United Methodist Church in the mid-1990s. It began, as it remains today, a cooperative effort between the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UM-VIM). Here in Wisconsin, we have not had a great need for Early Response Teams in the last several years. While this is a blessing, it also means that we do not have many people trained in Early Response to call upon when we are faced with natural disasters, such as after the flooding last year. We are looking for some caring Christians that would be willing to assist with cleanup after a disaster. The Early Response Team training is an 8-hour class and a background check is required.
