Disaster Response Coordinator Tom Rossmiller recently said he is working with the Wisconsin Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) to provide assistance to churches in the five-county area affected by recent flooding on the Bad River Reservation. He has also been in contact with Catherine Earl at UMCOR about case management training if this is needed in the affected areas. “The one thing the local churches can do if there is a need for case managers is to be willing to obtain people to take on this training and provide the families in need the long-term help they will likely need,” he said. “We were advised early on not to respond to the area as the local people and governments were making progress to help in this relief effort, and many roads have been washed out.” He said that the Wisconsin Conference Disaster Ministry team stands “ready to assist as we are able,” but must coordinate with Wisconsin VOAD first.
