The Church is responding with aid and prayers in the wake of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Quito, Ecuador. Sara Flores, a United Methodist missionary appointed to Quito, reports that a warehouse used for worship services is providing shelter for those displaced by the quake. Members of another church will donate their crops to help. In Texas, United Methodists are joining fellow residents in the southeast potion of the state as they prepare for long-haul relief work following massive rains and flooding. Eight flood-related deaths in the greater Houston area were reported last week, and many homes and other buildings, including some churches, have sustained damage. Gifts to help in recovery of either disaster can be sent to the Wisconsin Annual Conference with “Fund No. 5966 – International Disaster Recovery” or “Fund No. 5965 – U.S. Disaster Recovery” in the memo line.
