Approximately 100 laity from across the state gathered in Oshkosh for the third annual Laity Convocation with Bishop Jung from March 18-19. On Friday, attendees heard from visiting missionary Joel Ncahoruri, and discussed the vision of Imagining Wisconsin Anew with Conference leaders. Saturday brought discussions of mercy and justice ministries with Bishop Jung. “God is saying, ‘get up and go,’” he said. “We need to go out into the world. There are children in Milwaukee who don’t have anything to eat for lunch. In the name of Jesus, if we care, we should go. That’s what we should be saying.” Don Greer gave an update on Circuit Ministry 2.0 with help from laity from a number of churches, who gave examples about the progress and change being made in their circuits in light of Circuit Ministry 2.0. Attendees also spent time in workshops covering topics such as embracing conflict, how to start cross-cultural initiatives in the local church, how to approach community gardening, and UMC history and polity.
