The Equipping Conference for Effective Christian Leaders, Wisconsin Conference Fund #7945, has “given birth” to a new seminary. Because of the effectiveness of the Equipping Conference and quality of teachings, three pastors from the Church of Uganda and a Bishop from the United Episcopal Church joined Bishop Wesamoyo and the rest of the leadership of Green Pastures Christian Outreach to form the Green Pasture School of Theology. Classes begin September 2015 in rented facilities until they can build their own campus. The goal is to “establish a rural, vocational-based theological college with two departments: Theology and Christian Education; and a department of Vocational Technical Studies, with integrated training focused on academic excellence, ministerial formation, pastoral skill, and vocationalization to achieve holistic transformation of the students and staff. Graduates are expected to contribute to the socio-economic and spiritual transformation of the region and the nation.” The Equipping Conference for Effective Christian Leaders, a two-week annual training event for pastors and other Christian leaders, has trained thousands of men and women from various denominations in the rural region around Mbale, Uganda, a city located at the base of Mt. Elgon in eastern Uganda, near the border with Kenya. Thanks to scholarships supplied by the Cabinet of the Wisconsin Annual Conference, a dozen United Methodist pastors were able to travel from the nearby region of Busia to attend the Equipping Conference for two years.
