Despite brisk temperatures, nearly 50 people gathered at Red Arrow Park in Milwaukee on January 4 to pray for peace in the city of Milwaukee. Red Arrow Park is where 31 year old Dontre Hamilton was fatally shot April 30 by a former police officer. Kelly Fowler, Circuit #33 Leader, opened with a prayer and asked others to join her, including Bishop Jung. Metros District Superintendent Deborah Thompson said the event was inspiring – but also felt it had deeper implications. “It’s sad that we have to come together to pray for peace and justice in the community,” she said. “Our youths face so many challenges; is this the legacy we’re leaving them?” Thompson said she was glad to see young clergy and other young adults taking the initiative to attend the event. “They want to take action and be a part of solving the problem,” she said.
