Sheboygan Senior Community (SSC) serves the social, spiritual, and health-related needs of seniors in downtown Sheboygan through a continuum of living options, including assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, and memory support. Currently, SSC is in the process of adding a second campus, located on a 40-acre parcel of land which will allow for sufficient green space and room for future expansion. The new facility will be all one level with a partial basement used only for storage and service space. Rather than the current "medical model" so commonly seen in Nursing Homes, the new building will be built using the "Neighborhood Model" which has separate "households" within the neighborhoods. This allows for a much more home-like environment, rather than an institution-like environment. It allows for greater flexibility and choice for residents, and makes it easier for staff when assisting residents to live safely and comfortably. All bedrooms will be private. Living areas, kitchen areas and bedrooms in each household make it as close to a home as possible. Completion of the facility is expected by July 2015 at which time the residents will occupy their new home.
