This past weekend, the Wisconsin United Methodist Foundation held its 8th annual Stewardship Retreat at Pine Lake Camp. The theme of the retreat was moving giving from scarcity to abundance. Over 90 lay and clergy representing 40 congregations attended. Of those congregations, 24 were first-time attendees. Keynote speaker David Bell, president of the Michigan United Methodist Foundation presented on the topic of “Encouraging the Joy of Generous Giving: Discovering New Approaches to Funding Ministry.” Churches were encouraged to develop a three to five year Stewardship plan to help congregations promote year rounds stewardship opportunities. Several different workshops were offered including “Developing a Narrative Budget”, “Apportionments and your Stewardship Ministry Plan”, “Giving Through Technology” and others.
