Holly Helton-Anishinaabeqwa, who serves as the committee chairperson for the Native American Plan on the Wisconsin Board of Global Ministries, attended the international seminar “Empowerment of Speakers of the Local Language, Communities and Nations" in Paraguay from July 3-5, 2018. The event was organized by UNESCO, or the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

The objectives of the seminar included promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms for all speakers of the languages, raising awareness of the importance of linguistic diversity, identifying initiatives emerging related to the empowerment of communities, and establishing a closer relationship between representatives of the participating countries.

Holly is currently working on funding for two additional seminars: the first in Changsha, China from September 18-21, 2018 where she will be a keynote speaker, and the second in Colombia for a women’s seminar from October 11-12, 2018.
