Lewis Memorial UMC held a Cradle Rocking Service in January. The service dates back to 1692, and originated in The Bidworth Parish in England. When the tradition originated, the service would take place on the first Sunday in February. The baby born closest to Christmas had their Baptism on that Sunday, and then participated in the Cradle Rocking Service.

The names were then put on a cradle roll and displayed within the church. It was a way to welcome the children into the kingdom of God, and into the church. Judy Mrdutt from Lewis Memorial UMC said, “It is my hope and prayer that we can start a tradition here at Lewis that will let us prosper once again. Babies and children are the future of this church and community.”
