Bristol UMC prepared a feast for 51 U.S. Navy recruits for the annual Naval Station Great Lakes’ Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor programon Christmas. Through the program, local civic organizations “adopt” recruits unable to spend the holiday with their family. This is the 10th consecutive year that Bristol UMC has participated in the program. They have welcomed more than 600 recruits since 2008.

Joyce and Ralph Myers organize the event each year. Joyce said, “We’re just one big family celebrating Christmas. We’re the grandma and grandpa with lots of brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles.”

The church welcomed U.S. Navy Recruit Training Program Division 052. The recruits were briefed that they’d be transported to an off-base location, where they’d spend the day with a volunteer organization. It was their first trip to Wisconsin for all but one of them. Nearly all of the food, beverages, and desserts were donated.

The event was featured on Kenosha News.
