For the 46th consecutive year, First United Methodist Church of West Allis distributed Thanksgiving Baskets for those in West Allis who would otherwise have no Thanksgiving meal. Following worship on Sunday, November 19, the people of First UMC provided 180 families with all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The Thanksgiving Baskets include a frozen turkey, 10 pounds of potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, gravy, corn, green beans, rolls, stuffing, jello, a cake mix, margarine, Cool Whip, breakfast cereal, a disposable roasting pan, and other items.

The cost of the 180 baskets exceeded $8,000. The church purchased over 8,000 pounds of food. More than fifty people were involved in filling the baskets and distributing them. People of all ages participated: from Dick, a nonagenarian, to Lilah, our one-year-old ambassador of joy.
