MLK Celebration 2018
Sunday, January 14, 2018, 07:00pm

Bishop Jung invites everyone to attend the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Service on January 14 at 7 PM at Brown Deer UMC. The event will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend.

This year's guest speaker is Bishop Mel Talbert. Talbert received the Master of Divinity Degree from ITC (Gammon) in 1962, a member of the first full class of graduates from ITC. He did further study at the School of Theology, Claremont, California and Vancouver School of Theology, Vancouver, BC. While at ITC Talbert was on the honor roll each semester during his seminary years. He was selected a member of the theological honor society, Theta Phi. He became president of the student body in his middler year, while serving a two-point student charge at Sunrise, Tennessee (Rising Sun) and Jefferson City, Tennessee (Boyd Chapel). At the same time, he became involved with the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and shared in planning the first student sit-in demonstrations in Atlanta in the fall of 1960. Talbert made the commitment to non-violence as a way of life during those days. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. accepted the invitation to join with the students in the sit-in demonstrations and was arrested with them. Thus, Talbert spent three days and nights in the same jail cell with Dr. King, an experience that shaped his life forever. Read full Bishop Talbert bio
