As spring and summer approach, we begin thinking of summer vacations, youth trips and retreats. We’d like you to take a moment and think about a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northern Minnesota. It is a truly awesome part of God’s creation.

You might respond, “I’d love to go but I don’t have the equipment.” We would answer, “There is a Wisconsin United Methodist Church Canoe Co-op based in Ely, Minnesota that has all the canoes, paddles, tents, cooking utensils and many other essentials you may need for rent at an extremely low price ($3/person/night for anything we have you may need).”

You then may say, “It would be great, but we have no one who feels capable of leading the trip.” And we would respond, “The Canoe Co-op is sponsoring a leadership training event in the Boundary Waters June 5-9, 2018. The training, equipment rental, food and permits are free. You would provide your own transportation and food en route.”

“Ah, but we are not real familiar with the BWCAW. We wouldn’t know where to go for our own trip,” you say. “Ah, but we can help you plan a route, as can professional guides we know,” we would reply. “Plus we have packing lists, food suggestions and a host of tips to help you.”

So, you see, there really isn’t a good reason for you not to go and have a life-changing experience.

We have attached a poster with this information we would like you to share with your congregation, and especially youth leaders, adult groups, and families.

We have fallen in love with the BWCAW and would enjoy helping others share God’s beauty. “…Let’s hear it from Sky, with Earth joining in, and a huge round of applause from Sea. Let Wilderness turn cartwheels, Animals come dance, Put every tree of the forest in the choir—An extravaganza before God as He comes...” (Psalm 96:11-13a, The Message)
