Rev. Deborah Thompson, District Superintendent and Cabinet Dean, began the Cabinet Address by thanking the Conference for voting to restructure our state into five districts so that we together can journey effectively and in different ways.

She said that this past year, “the Bishop and Cabinet have prayerfully, faithfully and lovingly worked hard to live up to the trust that you have placed in us to live out our vision together for Imagine Wisconsin Anew”… to plant new faith communities, engage in establishing relationship within our multicultural communities; focus on revitalizing and turning around our churches; take risk and stand up for justices and mercy in every corner of the state and nation; and help to provide food for the soul and body.

According to Thompson, one of the really great stories of this past year is the completion of our first class of the Institute of Congregational Development, where we are in the process of training clergy and lay leaders through an intentional time of learning each month for a year. They are exposed to leaders from around the country on how to develop strategies and mindsets that make them better leaders, AND help their churches develop new faith communities, and learn about revitalization efforts.

Along with the Bishop, the five district superintendents, the assistant to the Bishop, the director of connectional ministries and the director of congregational development, Thompson said that we are connecting across this Wisconsin Conference to help build missional communities. With the help of our District Strategy Teams, we are reaching out with God’s love in Jesus Christ to new people in every Wisconsin community, she said.

In the shift to five districts, Thompson explained, we are seeing an increase of time that District Superintendents are spending with our churches. This shift has resulted in several of our districts seeing a significant increase in apportionments received. She said, “We stand before you today thanking you for your willingness to continue to dream with us as we prayerfully, faithfully and lovingly work hard together to realize Imagine Wisconsin Anew. Thank you for voting for the feasibility study”
