Commission on Archives and History

Old-time preacher riding his horseThe Wisconsin Conference Commission on Archives and History (CAH) promotes and cares for the historical interest of The United Methodist Church in Wisconsin. The rich and storied history of Wisconsin United Methodist History includes the first Wisconsin Annual Conference of The Methodist Episcopal Church, which met on July 12, 1848, in Southport, Wisconsin.

The CAH operates both an Archives (located in Sun Prairie) and a Museum (located in Greenfield). These locations house a wide variety of historical records and materials relating to The United Methodist Church in Wisconsin, which are preserved and made available for public and scholarly use. The Commission is made up of a staff person and volunteers who oversee the Conference Archives and Historical Museum. The CAH actively encourages local congregations to preserve their historical materials. An Archives Guide for Local Church Historians is also available.
