Building Maintenance
 
The Church Maintenance Specialist is a crucial member of our church community, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our facilities and equipment. This position involves working collaboratively with the custodial and kitchen staff and coordinating equipment repairs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of dedication to maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for our congregation, guests, and staff.
 
General Responsibility
 
The maintenance specialist will help Cargill UMC operate efficiently and effectively as it welcomes and hosts people who are members and guests. The importance of maintaining the building is an acknowledgment that we do so as stewards of these resources for God’s purposes.
 
Areas of Responsibility
 
  • Facility Maintenance – routine inspections, repairs and maintenance tasks of church mechanical systems and equipment. Address and promptly resolve maintenance issues such as plumbing, electric, HVAC and structural and coordinate with outside service providers and contractors as necessary to keep the facility in excellent condition.
  • Equipment Management – Ensure all equipment (ovens, refrigerators, freezer, ice machine, dishwasher, etc.) functions optimally. Schedule and perform routine inspections, and coordinate with external vendors when necessary.
  • Team Collaboration – Work closely with church leadership and staff to determine priorities and respond promptly to urgent needs.
  • Record Keeping – Keep detailed records of tasks, repairs and expenses.
  • Safety and Compliance – Adhere to safety protocols and maintain compliance with local regulations and building codes.
 
Requirements
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience in maintenance and facility management, preferably in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of various maintenance disciplines, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repairs.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and its maintenance is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff and external service providers.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing maintenance issues.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to support the church community and its mission.
 
Physical Requirements
 
  • Physical capability to perform various maintenance tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working at heights
 Accountability
 
The Maintenance Specialist is directly accountable to the Director of Ministry Resources, and ultimately to the Lead Pastor. The Maintenance Specialist works in tandem with the Learning Center directors, custodial staff and the Board of Trustees. A Staff-Parish Relations Committee serves as a liaison for staff.
 
Working Hours and Salary Support
 
20 hours a week. Salary to be determined. Hours vary. Occasional evenings & weekends necessary.
