Youth & Children's Ministries Coordinator - Cargill UMC

Cargill United Methodist cares for youth and children! And we're hiring a full-time ministry coordinator or two part-time coordinators to help us be a vitally important place for young people and families.

Note: We will hire either one full-time or two part-time persons, depending on interest of candidates.

WHO WE ARE

Cargill United Methodist Church is an 800-member congregation with a long history in Janesville, Wisconsin. Guided by our Cargill 2025 ministry plan, we are revitalizing ministry across all age groups. Working with other staff and leaders, this is a key position in this vision.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

To develop and oversee the church’s program for youth and children’s ministries, focusing on the spiritual formation of young persons as well as their families.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Will work with staff and church members to:

 Help create and coordinate learning opportunities, programs and events for youth sixth through 12th grades. (Examples: youth in mission, retreats, classes and/or small groups.)
 Help create and coordinate learning opportunities, programs and events for children preschool through fifth grade. (Examples: Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, small groups, family worship, seasonal events.)
 Work with an existing children’s ministry team and help form a youth ministry team by inviting trusted adults into leadership and participation.
 Help such persons develop the skills and tools for such ministries, through planning, communication, and training.

DESIRED APTITUDES

 Relational skills. Comfortable in relating in age-intuitive ways to young people and adults.
 Willing to make contacts in person, through social media, by telephone, and e-mail.
 Adaptable to challenges and opportunities that will arise as the program grows.
 Ability to work as self-starter, while also collaborating with pastoral staff and ministry teams on ideas, planning and evaluation of programs.

 Commitment to the Christian faith and to the church.
 Patience working with persons of varying aptitudes, education and levels of commitment.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Will be a member of a 19-person staff, including core staff who will collaborate regularly on helping Cargill be a place of vital ministry. Directly responsible to the pastoral staff (lead pastor and associate pastor). Pastors are responsible to encourage and support staff persons, who in turn encourage and support members and friends of the congregation. A Staff-Parish Relations Committee serves as a liaison for staff.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

An ideal candidate will have experience working with youth and children, local church experience and post-secondary education.

WORKING HOURS AND SALARY SUPPORT

32 hours a week. Some weeks may require more work, others less. Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include ability to participate in group health insurance plan and United Methodist pension plan; paid vacation and holidays.
