Children & Youth Event Coordinator

Position Title: Children and Youth Event Coordinator
Part Time, average 10 hours per week, not to exceed 130 hours per quarter
90-day probationary period
Reports to: Staff Parish Relations Committee and Pastor

Position Goals:
Foster children, youth (birth to 12th grade), and families to grow in faith, in Christ's love, and in active
participation in the life of the church
Grow the number of families with children and youth at Salem UMC
Outreach to children and families in the community and create opportunities for service and mission in
the community (in collaboration of outreach team)
Support volunteers and teams who work with children and youth

Qualifications:
A Christian background with a passion for educating and leading children
A motivated person with a positive attitude who works well without direct supervision or guidance,
and works well with others as a team
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Ability to be present Sundays and evenings
Ability to use standard office equipment: email, Word, copy machine, etc.
Experience with social media
Some working knowledge of United Methodist Church

Position Responsibilities:
1) Develop faithful vision, strategies and goals for Children's Ministries and communicate them to staff,
ministry teams, and the congregation
2) Connect with school districts, and family services in the community in order to create relationships of
collaboration and support
3) Recruit, train and equip a Children's Ministry Team. This team's responsibilities include, but are not
limited to:
a. Sunday School through 12th Grade
b. Events and fellowship opportunities in partnership with parents and families, and other
churches and community
c. Vacation Bible School
d. Holiday events and worship opportunities such as Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter
e. Age-appropriate Mission Projects
f. Work with the Music Director to involve children in Sunday morning and special event musical
performances, both vocal and instrumental
g. lmplement an event evaluation process to provide input from participants
h. Remain connected to the network of United Methodist churches, seek out and utilize
opportunities for continuing education on an annual basis
i. Assist in the implementation of a Safe Sanctuaries policy
j. Provide updates to congregation through the Tidings, Worship bulletin, special announcements,
fliers, etc, Verbally communicate to the congregation the success of previous events and
promote upcoming events and opportunities

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
