Employment

We are looking for people who are sincerely interested in working with kids in a Christian environment for an extended period of time. We want staff members who are patient, understanding, sensitive and nurturing. We are seeking individuals who are mature enough to put the needs of their campers before their own, and who are not afraid of hard work. These intangible qualities are hard to find and harder to measure.

We interview many more than we hire. Our commitment to excellence offers no shortcuts. Indeed, our best investment of time and energy is to provide our campers with counselors who can best attend to their physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs.

We are looking for people who:

  • Are willing and able to work in cooperation with others in our Christian community to provide a safe, friendly atmosphere in which we develop a deeper relationship with nature, each other, and Christ.
  • Are willing to give every effort possible to a job that is tiring, demanding and challenging.
  • Are flexible and willing to help to make the whole camp experience positive for campers and staff alike.
  • Possess exceptional communication skills.
  • Are willing to accept the responsibility of being a role model for hundreds of young people during the summer.
  • Show genuine concern for the well-being of the campers, and get along and work well with others.
  • Have the ability to work well in a staff relationship and serve persons from a wide range of ages, interests, and backgrounds.
  • Are able to accept responsibility, suggestions, and praise.

I liked all of the different activities, all of the awesome friends, and the seriously cool counselors." Summer camper

Program Director - The program director is the person who holds responsibility for the schedule, logistics, activities and educational opportunities for the week. This person coordinates the schedule and program needs with other staff as needed. The program director works with the counselors to provide a meaningful and exciting experience to dozens of campers each week. As the program director, this individual will act as leader and supervisor to the counselors - and at the same time provide care and support to them. The program director must be at least 21 years old and have substantial work and/or education experience in a child, education, counseling or similar setting.

Counselors/Activity Leaders - Being a cabin counselor is a lot like being a parent (you're on call 24 hours a day) because you live with and are responsible for a group of campers in their camp home and in their daily routine, i.e. wake-up, cabin clean-up, meals, camper hygiene, rest hour and bed-time. One day you might dress up in a silly outfit for the day; the next day you might reassure a nervous camper about to ride horses for the first time. You will be responsible for leading the daily Bible lesson with your campers, making sure to focus on the daily theme. You will also teach one or more general or special skills, like crafts or games, with other members of our staff. Counselors need to be at least 18 years old. Not all staff counsel every week. We rotate counselors to other positions from time to time, helping in the kitchen and with maintenance and housekeeping. All staff should expect to shoulder his/her share of these important chores.

Lifeguards/Counselors - In addition to being a counselor, lifeguards are needed to supervise our campers during swimming, boating and other waterfront activities. Lifeguards receive additional compensation for their current lifeguard certification.

Camp Health Supervisor - The camp health supervisor is responsible for monitoring the health and safety of all campers and staff. Responsibilities include screening campers at registration, administering daily medications, record keeping, monitoring supplies and first aid kits, etc. Minimum certification in emergency response required. This person can also be certified as an EMT, LPN, or RN.
