• Children's Messages
  • Tithing
    • Give envelopes to children, some with 10 pennies, some with 10 dimes, some with 10 quarters and some with 10 dollar bills.
    • Have each person put one of whatever is in their envelope into a offering plate.
    • Talk about how it is easier to share smaller amounts.
    • Talk about how it is important to share more when we have more. (Jann Brockmann)
  • Penny A Day
    • Scripture: Widow’s Offering (Luke 21:1-4 or Mark 12:41-44)
    • Discuss how a penny is not worth much.
    • Guess how much money there would be if every member and child in the congregation gave a penny a day.

  • Tools
    • Put a number of different types of tools in a box: eg. hammer, pliers, screwdriver (building tools); Silverware (eating tools); Pens/pencils/crayons (school tools); Needles and Thread (sewing tools); and, finally a jar with money inside. I use a pint jar with a few wadded up dollar bills and some quarters.
    • Then, I talk about how money is a tool that we use in church to share God’s love with the world. (Jean Ehnert Nicholas)
  • Using Money
    • Give each of the children a quarter or two.
    • Talk about what they could do with the money.
    • Invite them to use it in some way to show God’s love.
    • Place it in the offering plate.
    • Give it for the Sunday School Mission Offering.(Jean Ehnert Nicholas)
  • Indianhead Coins
    • Give each of the kids an Indianhead penny.
    • Tell them it is a special penny almost 100 years old.
    • It was worth a penny but now it is worth more, from $1 to several hundred dollars. (Dave Busker)
