Welcome to First Church!
Every church wants to be known as a friendly church. However, that is a characteristic that takes intentional effort. It is not easy. Even in churches where everyone knows each other, where anyone new stands out, friendliness is not automatic. But in a church like ours, with 1,050 confirmed members, making the church feel warm and inviting takes work. Friendliness doesn't happen by accident. And welcoming is not a job for just pastors or staff, or an evangelism committee. The whole church needs to embrace the challenge of welcoming all who come, and finding a place for all to feel at home within this complex community. This is the feeling we are striving for through our worship services, events, choirs, committees, get-togethers - even this website. We want you to be part of the diversity and vitality of this wonderful church family that is First Church. We strive to be a church that truly welcomes all who enter our doors. United Methodist Church of Madison Homosexual persons no less
than heterosexual persons are individuals of sacred worth. All persons
need the ministry and guidance of the church in their struggles for
human fulfillment, as well as the spiritual and Lesbian/Gay persons are
often scorned by society and alienated from the Church. Therefore, we
affirm that Lesbian/Gay persons are welcomed and embraced within the
membership of First United Methodist Church upon making the same
affirmation of faith that all other persons make; and that as members of
the Body of Christ and First United Methodist Church, Lesbian/Gay people
are expected and encouraged to share in liturgy, general life,
employment and leadership of our congregation.
