Visioning  Team

What's new?

The work of the Visioning Team and five strategic planning teams has been completed, and work is already underway to implement our new Vision Statement and Strategic Plan for Ministry. If you are interested in getting involved in making our vision a reality, contact Rev. Keith Schroerlucke (256-4646 ext. 13).

Vision Statement 2005

Connecting to God and One Another
▪ Getting and staying connected to God will be central to all that we do: in worship, in service to persons in need, and in caring for each other.
▪ Individuals and families will be connected in small groups to care for each other, much like the early church or an extended family.
▪ We will be connected in small groups to welcome newcomers, serve persons in need, seek God together through study and other spiritual practices, and enjoy fellowship together.

Learning and Maturing in our Faith Journey
▪ All people seeking an understanding of faith will be welcomed and supported in their faith journey, whether they come from a faith tradition or are just beginning their search for meaning and purpose in life.
▪ We will honor the ancient traditions and scriptural heritage of the Christian faith, and we will also explore emerging theological insights.
▪ Faith will be nurtured by spiritual practices (including prayer, Bible study, and worship), and also by serving and being served.
▪ The core values that unite and define us will be articulated as a key step forward in our collective faith journey.
▪ Persons will be equipped to effectively witness to the compelling message of Christ’s love.

Expanding Outreach and Service
▪ Our tradition of outreach and service will be expanded to focus on the needs of those in the downtown Madison area, affirming our call to be “Downtown for Good.”
▪ Collaborating through United Methodist and other organizations, we will reach out to others in our community, other parts of the country, and the world.
▪ Rather than expecting people in need to come to us, we will go where we are needed.
▪ All who are served will be welcomed to become part of our congregation if they choose.

Embracing Our Growing Diversity
▪ People with diverse views will come together in respectful and constructive dialogue, cultivating and modeling this skill for our children and community.
▪ All who wish to share in our faith journey will be welcomed, regardless of past and current religious faith, gender, sexual orientation, race, disabilities, age, or political opinions.
▪ We will seek to learn from all points of view.
▪ We will offer a multiplicity of worship experiences, ranging from the very traditional to more innovative.

Developing the Leaders, Volunteers, and Facilities Needed for Our Ministries
▪ Members of the congregation will take responsibility for carrying out the ministries of the church, in a dynamic partnership with professional staff and clergy.
▪ Professional staff will focus on developing, empowering, and supporting laity as ministers.
▪ Our facility will be improved so that it is a welcoming and visible presence in downtown Madison, with space that is adequate to meet present and future ministry needs.
