What
is the Prayer Team?
The
Prayer Team is composed of over forty persons who are dedicated to
offering intercessory prayer for those who request it.
How
do I request prayers?
Call
one of the contact numbers listed above.
In addition to these there are pew cards that can be placed in
the collection plates on Sundays, and there are boxes for requests in
the lower hall by the food pantry and by the elevators for the
pre-school. When requesting
prayers for another, unless it is a minor or the person is
incapacitated, permission of the person needing prayer should be sought.
Any
subject is acceptable for prayer: improved health, a job, emotional
support, safe travel, family concerns, etc. "Take it to the Lord in
Prayer" fits any and all life situations.
All requests are confidential.
Requests for oneself may also be made anonymously.
How
does the Prayer Team work?
Each
team member is asked to respond to a request by praying for
the person or people in need immediately, and then again
during his or her regular daily prayer times.
Most requests are kept on the list for about a month, unless
there are updates or requests for specific lengths of time.
Sometimes there are reports of healing or recovery from a crisis
and a request is made to offer prayers of thanksgiving.
The number of requests each day varies considerably.
Team
members each determine their own methods of prayer.
If specific outcomes are requested these are usually honored.
Sometimes prayers are asked for the best outcome in the situation
presented or the best for those involved. Sometimes persons are
simply “held in the Light.”
How
can I join the Prayer Team?
Anyone
who feels called to this ministry may join the team at any time.
A person wishing to join the team contacts the coordinator, whose
name is in the Chimes and in Sunday Bulletins (the name may change every
few years.) Most team
members receive their prayer requests by e-mail, but there is
a telephone tree and a snail mail system as well.
Members of the team each have a prayer partner for whom they pray
every day. Contact Nancy Barth for more information.
