FUMC
Music Program
Our
Music Program seeks to express the love and the glory of God. Its
primary purpose is to enhance the worship experience as an inspiring and
artistic expression of service and praise to God.
First
United Methodist Church has a rich tradition of musical excellence. In
addition to its recognized commitment to the spiritual life of the
congregation, FUMC music makes a special contribution to the cultural
life of Madison. In doing so, we strive to enrich the lives of those we
touch, and to gather into the congregation those who would believe in
and work to advance Christ's kingdom.
We
currently have five singing choirs, a handbell choir, and a brass choir.
There is a place in the music program for anyone who wishes to learn, to
grow, and to serve. Watch for new musical opportunities by reading
The Chimes, or contact Scott Foss,
Director of Music, with questions or ideas at 256-9061, or by
email.

Blessed
Brass
The Brass ensemble is made up of many area musicians. We rehearse the
Monday evening before we play in worship and the Sunday morning that we
play. There is always room for more players. Bell
Choir - will not meet during the summer months
The Handbell Choir is a level 4-5 choir that plays once a month. We
always have room for new ringers and regular substitutes. The Handbell
choir rehearses Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Chamber
Choir
Experienced singers who meet on Sunday morning, sight-read the music and
shape it for worship all in 15 minutes. Membership in this group needs
to be discussed with the Director of Music, Scott Foss. Chancel
Choir - will not meet during the summer months
This is an enthusiastic volunteer choir with singers of all ages and
abilities who regularly sing in worship. Anyone with an interest in
singing sacred music is welcome. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at
7:30 p.m. in the Music Room, LL20.
Summer Choir
Even if you do not sing regularly in the Chancel Choir during the school
year, you are welcome to join us during the summer. We will gather in
the sanctuary at 9:00, rehearse the music from 9:00 until 9:20 and then
sing for the 9:30 service. We do not wear robes in the summer and music
is handed out when you arrive. If this Sunday does not work for you, the
summer choir sings on June 17th, July 8th and
August 26th.
Praise Team
A wide assortment of instruments play contemporary Christian music and
help to lead the congregation during Blended Worship at Eleven. Contact:
Dan Tyler
for more information.
Music Makers: Children in
grades K-5 are invited to participate in Music Makers at 9:45 a.m. on
Sunday mornings in room LL10.
Special
Musical Opportunities For Children and Youth

several musicals that are fully costumed and staged (regardless of
