The season of Lent is a time for reflection, soul searching and rededicating ourselves to God. The forty days of Lent are reminiscent of Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness; as he withdrew "from the world" after his baptism. We invite you to accept our invitation to come closer to God. Through worship, study, prayer and reflection we offer many opportunities to connect with God during this special time. Click here for a flyer detailing our Lenten journey at First Church this year. Wednesday evenings during Lent: Simple Soup Suppers Each Wednesday in Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday (February 17) and concluding on Wednesday, March 24, a simple soup supper will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. There is no cost for the suppers, but free will contributions will be received to help offset the meal costs. As Jesus demonstrated so well, coming together at table is important to our community life. We hope you’ll come for supper on Wednesdays. UMW Deborah Circle Deborah Circle will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at the home of Julie Miehe, 155 Shato Lane, Monona. Devotions will be led by Lynne Jeffris with Donna Turner providing the program on Human Trafficking. Did you know that human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, is the second largest and fastest growing crime industry in the world after drug trafficking? Did you know that cases of human trafficking have been reported in all 50 of our states and Washington, DC and some U.S. territories? Did you know victims of human trafficking are children or adults, U.S. citizens or foreign nationals, male or female? Learn of social service organizations that are assisting victims so they can begin the process of restoring their lives. Let’s put a stop to this horrendous crime! New Member Orientation If you’ve been visiting with us in worship and would like to consider membership, or if you simply desire more information, please come and share in an informal conversation with Pastor Keith on Tuesday, March 23 at 6 p.m. in room 203. Our conversation will center around the mission and ministries of First Church. There will be a discussion about membership as well as time to get acquainted with one another. Please contact Mary Hasheider at the church office (256-9061 ext. 34) or by email at mhasheider@fumc.org if you plan to attend. If you are unable to attend, but would like to become a member of First Church, please let Mary know!

Easter Sunday, April 4 Early worship on Easter will be held at 8 a.m. Our 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. worship hours will be identical and held in the sanctuary. In addition to our Chancel Choir, we will welcome a fine brass ensemble to lead us in music. We will end the Easter celebration with Handel’s "Hallelujah Chorus" from Messiah. Everyone will be invited to participate in this majestic piece of music. With an anticipated larger than usual attendance, consider worshipping at the 11:15 hour. This might allow a little more room for visitors who will be joining us at both services. Easter Community Meal It’s appropriate that our Lenten Season, with our theme of compassion, should end with an Easter celebration that we share with our neighbors. This 26th Easter dinner at First Church is April 4th , from 12:30 to 2 p.m. If interested in volunteering, please call Judy Metz at 249-0540 or sign up between services for the next two Sundays. Food and monetary donations are also needed. Thank you for your help and please join us on Easter Sunday for good food and fellowship!
