Team Ministry (CTM)
What we do The Care Team Ministry responds to the non-medical "quality of life" needs of individuals and families not routinely provided by existing social service programs. Care Teams provide social, emotional, physical and spiritual support in an individualized, flexible and responsible manner, based on concern and care for those in need. Care is provided on a continuing or short-term basis to elderly who live alone or who depend on a single caregiver, to individuals with acute or chronic needs requiring in-home support, and to families stricken by some catastrophic need, adversity or situation. The program has a very simple structure, led by co-leaders and supported by pastoral staff. Oakwood Lutheran Homes, in partnership with other area social service programs, provides volunteer training and supervision. The larger team is broken down into a network of smaller teams. Each mini-team is then assigned to care for one family or person, and is supported by the congregational Team Members and Oakwood, where they receive a thorough orientation, ongoing training, and education. Training may include such topics as communication and listening skills, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, aging, grief and loss. Care Team Ministry provides:
Services are provided based on the availability of Team Members and there is NO COST for services. Who can volunteer? Anyone can become a Care Team Member. The simple structure makes it easy to get involved and easy to stay involved. Because the ministry responds to individuals through a team effort, there is less burden on the individual team member and greater dependability to those being served. What is asked of volunteers? Care Team Members make a weekly commitment to calling, visiting, writing or performing other activities within their comfort level and based on their availability and interest. Each month, Care Team Members meet to review their caring ministries. Through these team meetings, member provide each other with peer review and support. Team Members are expected to participate in the orientation and training program offered by Oakwood Lutheran Homes as part of the ongoing support and supervision provided. Team Members, and the people they serve, discover the joys of giving and receiving.
